As of 6 this morning, around 60,000 customers finally had power restored to their homes, Western Mass Electric Company announced this morning. There are still about 92,000 customers without power. Yesterday, 75 line crews and 35 tree crews were out in the field clearing debris from the massive October storm in the attempt to restore power to the thousands in the dark. Today, 120 line crews and 90 tree crews will be working in hard-hit areas with an expected 70 additional line crews and 20 tree crews coming to assistance this afternoon.Emergency centers and town facilities have been prioritized, but power is expected back on in areas of Hadley and Greenfield by Thursday, with areas of Springfield coming back in service by Friday or Saturday."Over the past 24 hours we've corrected trouble spots along the backbone of the system, so service outage numbers will recede today as we dig in to restoring service locally," said Peter J. Clarke, WMECo president and chief operating officer, in a press release this morning.WMECo officials also warn of the dangers of generators. Always keep generators outside and treat any downed wire as a live wire by staying more than ten feet away.CBS 3 Springfield will keep you updated throughout the day as more customers are restored to power.
