Black Hills Engery help weatherize a home for winter
Post on: 2011-11-02 By: admin
Black Hills Energy Weatherization Teams throughout the company's
service areas are creating potential energy savings and increased
comfort by weatherizing houses at no charge for homeowners who
can't do so because of advanced age or health limitations. The
effort also broadens awareness that applying simple, low-cost
weatherization measures on a weekend afternoon can provide energy
"Helping our customers use energy wisely is an added value of
our overall service," said Castle Rock operations supervisor Ron
Zuroff in Castle Rock, where the team weatherized three homes
today. "An annual furnace inspection, cleaning and filter
replacement creates greater efficiency, and you can reduce drafts
and energy loss with weatherstripping, caulk, expanding foam,
window plastic, outlet gaskets, water pipe insulation and other
do-it-yourself measures."
Black Hills Energy indentified candidates for the free
weatherization assistance and then determined each home's
requirements. Black Hills employees are partnering with agencies
and volunteers across the company to help customers chosen by level
of need. Those customers also receive a complimentary package of
compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) that use less energy than
conventional bulbs. And everyone can find energy-saving tips at

bill with its Budget Billing option, which reduces the amount due
during cold peak usage months by distributing the total out over
the year for a level monthly bill. Through its Black Hills Cares
energy assistance program, the company matches customer and
employee donations and forwards the total to local agencies to help
qualifying customers. Bill stubs feature a pledge box for
